Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is likely to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore in order to encourage other countries to cooperate with the West concerning Russian military operation, Nikkei reported on Saturday.
In addition to this, the prime minister plans to discuss China's expansion in the East and South China Seas. The annual security meeting is held in Singapore in June and hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), while attended by the United States, Europe, and Asia defense ministers.
Earlier, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian commented that Kishida's remarks on China are exaggerated, doubting Tokyo's interest in peace and stability in East Asia. The comment followed a statement by the Japanese prime minister that warned of East Asia turning into Ukraine, citing the importance of stability in the Taiwan Strait.
