Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin supports the "idea of a ceasefire," but that he needs some clarifications on Ukraine's position first.
"These questions are hanging in the air, and no one has yet answered them. This is connected with the lack of control over the Kiev regime, and with the inability of the Kiev regime to control the actions of a number of extremist and nationalist units that simply do not obey Kiev. This is also connected with plans for the further militarization of Kiev," Peskov said, adding that despite its solidarity with the need for a "speedy" ceasefire, Russia "must ensure our interests."
Peskov confirmed that no specific date is currently set for the continuation of the talks between Russia and the United States. He also emphasized that his country's military strikes "exclusively" military and near-military targets.
