Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed China's peace initiative for Ukraine "in broad terms" during Xi's visit to Russia last week. He said that "the main thing now... is the implementation of the principle indivisibility of security in any negotiations."
China published the 12-point peace plan in February, insisting on its impartiality in the conflict. While Putin has said the plan matches Russia's position, Ukraine and its Western allies have not yet endorsed it. Lavrov insisted that the West "sees its geopolitical interests in this war, primarily from the point of view of its attempts to eliminate another competitor on the world stage in the form of the Russian Federation."
