Leavitt: China tariff up because of imprudence

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed for reporters on Wednesday that the tariffs on Chinese products will be boosted to 125% as the country "imprudently decided to retaliate."

"We have had more than 75 countries from around the world reach out to [US] President [Donald] Trump and his team here at the White House to negotiate," she commented, adding that the tailored-made discussion with the US trade partners will continue.

In the meantime, there will be a 90-day delay on the reciprocal tariffs, as negotiations take place, Leavitt remarked, further mentioning that the "tariff level will be brought down to a universal 10% tariff." Speaking to reports about the Beijing situation, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that China scored an "own goal."
