Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that recent changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine have calmed aggressive attitudes in the West.
Lukashenko said he believed these updates were necessary and that Western leaders had been aware of the signals even before the official announcement. In a commentary for the Russian state Russia-1 TV channel Lukashenko mentioned that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had begun discussions about this issue five years ago. He suggested that if Western leaders had not taken note of the developments, they might have resorted to military action against Russia.
