Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stressed on Thursday that Moscow and Minsk stand ready to use "all types of weapons" to defend Belarus from a potential attack on its territory. The president, however, highlighted that Minsk is not seeking war.
The Belarusian head of state underlined that a number of neighboring countries are "armed to the teeth" with an "exorbitant" number of troops near the country's border. "But Belarus has the necessary arsenal for deterrence, including nuclear weapons," Lukashenko added.
The Belarusian president expressed his regret about withdrawing strategic nuclear weapons from Belarus, citing it as a request from Washington after the Soviet Union's collapse. He emphasized that such weaponry "should remain on Belarusian territory."
