Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva insisted on Friday that his country will respond if US President Donald Trump moves forward with tariffs on Brazilian aluminum and steel. Speaking in Radio Clube do Para, Lula warned of potential commercial retaliation or a formal complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Lula emphasized that Brazil would not remain passive, insisting that any tariff action would trigger reciprocal measures. He criticized the United States' approach to international trade, saying it often acts like a "world sheriff" without regard for other economies. The Brazilian president underlined his hope for constructive dialogue but made clear that Brazil is prepared to defend its interests.
Earlier reports showed that Brasilia could potentially target major US tech firms, as a response to Washington.
