Chief of British intelligence agency MI5 Ken McCallum stated on Tuesday that Russia is looking to create "mayhem on British and European streets." In a speech, he further added that 20 Iran-backed plots have been detected since 2022.
While the security service worked to counter "extreme right-wing terrorism," it mostly worked against Islamic extremism, according to McCallum. Nonetheless, he mentioned that MI5 had to deal with a "dizzying range of beliefs and ideologies."
McCallum also shared that the threat from the Islamic State, alongside al-Qaida, has been "worsening" in recent times.
