French President Emmanuel Macron revealed on Friday during a press conference held in Portugal that he left Washington "with very little hope on progress regarding tariffs."

The French head of state insisted that tariffs wouldn't benefit anyone as "they are inflationary." He added that Europeans would respond to the US tariffs on aluminum and steel. Macron further expressed concerns about the Trump administration's "commercial approach," pointing out that there are some "problems" and "misunderstandings."

More recently, United States President Donald Trump announced that he would introduce a 25% tariff on European Union cars.
