Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled on Tuesday that former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is guilty of corruption in a case related to the investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
"After considering all evidence in this trial, I find that the prosecution has successfully proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt," Judge Mohamad Nazlan Mohamad Ghazali said. Najib's lawyers requested a delay in sentencing and are set to appeal the ruling at a federal court.
Last year, Najib, who is facing seven corruption and money-laundering charges, had pleaded not guilty. The former prime minister could face up to 15 or up to 20 years in jail on each of the charges.
