Manchin slams Treasury Dept. over EV tax credits

United States Senator Joe Manchin pointed out on Thursday that the Treasury Department's most recent actions on the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and its provisions about the electric vehicle tax credits are "clearly inconsistent with the intent of the law."

The Treasury Department's plans would help "companies looking for loopholes" and "weaken our ability to become a more energy secure nation," the Democrat from West Virginia said in a statement. Considering the Treasury's several missteps concerning certain deadlines and implementation of the law, Manchin revealed he is calling on the department "to pause the implementation" of the IRA "until they have issued the appropriate guidance."

"When Congress returns to session in the coming weeks I will introduce legislation that further clarifies the original intent of the law and prevents this dangerous interpretation from Treasury from moving forward," Manchin underscored.
