Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday expressed his belief that Ukraine's accession to NATO would inevitably result in an open conflict between Moscow and the Alliance.
Medvedev highlighted that the Ukrainian "nationalist regime" would persist in its efforts to reclaim lost territory, to which Moscow would "have to respond harshly by all possible means." He underscored that the situation would lead to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty in this hypothetical scenario.
