The Republic of Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) revealed on Tuesday that it fined Meta Platforms Inc.'s Irish business unit €17 million.

The DPC conducted an investigation into the company's security practices after having been notified about 12 data breaches in a six-month time span in the second half of 2018.

The regulator "found that Meta Platforms failed to have in place appropriate technical and organizational measures which would enable it to readily demonstrate the security measures that it implemented in practice to protect EU users' data, in the context of the twelve personal data breaches."
