Meta Platforms Inc. is building a subsea fiber-optic cable around the world in a project costing over $10 billion, TechCrunch reported on Friday. People familiar with the matter said the tech giant would be "the sole owner and user" of the cable.
According to the sources, the project is still in the planning stage and will take "years before it is fully operational." The cable will allegedly span from the United States east coast via South Africa, India and Australia to the US west coast. Meta is expected to reveal details about the cable in early 2025.
