UNSPLASH / TADAS SAR

Microsoft Corporation said in a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Friday that Russian hackers gained access to email accounts of a "very small percentage" of the company's employees, including some senior executives.

"On January 12, 2024, Microsoft ... detected that beginning in late November 2023, a nation-state associated threat actor had gained access to and exfiltrated information from a very small percentage of employee email accounts including members of our senior leadership team and employees in our cybersecurity, legal, and other functions, on the basis of preliminary analysis," the tech giant stated and added the hackers' access to these accounts has been removed "on or about January 13."

Microsoft added that, so far, the incident "has not had a material impact" on its operations, but stressed it is yet to determine if it "is reasonably likely to materially impact the Company's financial condition or results of operations."
