Louisiana's Congressman Mike Johnson seemingly failed to secure the necessary votes to be re-elected as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives in the first round of voting on Friday.
The Louisiana lawmaker garnered 216 votes against Democratic Party candidate House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who received 215. Both candidates fell short of the required 218 votes needed to claim victory.
No one voted "present" and there were three votes for a third candidate. A second vote is expected shortly.
