Moscow: Humanitarian crisis in Raqqa due to US mistakes

The humanitarian catastrophe that ensued in Raqqa was caused by targeting mistakes of United States warplanes and the lack of effort to deliver aid, Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Syromolotov said on Friday in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency.

While Russia actively works to provide humanitarian aid in Syria, the same cannot be said of the US and its allies, the official, who supervises counterterrorism cooperation with other countries, stated. He added that the humanitarian catastrophe in Raqqa is similar to the one that took place in Mosul, caused by a lack of effort on the part of the US to provide aid and build corridors for the evacuation of civilians.

Moreover, persistent mistakes of the US Air Force, including airstrikes targeting civilian sites, are responsible for the resulting humanitarian crisis, Syromolotov said.
