The states of South Dakota and Nebraska in their entirety, along with some parts of Nevada, Texas, Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin and Kentucky are experiencing disruptions in their 911 services, preventing emergency calls from getting through.
Several law enforcement agencies throughout the US are reporting the issue in posts on X, formerly Twitter, providing alternative phone numbers to citizens and warning them that their calls will otherwise not go through. Some authorities have asked callers to refrain from dialing the standard 911 emergency number while they attempt to restore service.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) also reported the disruption, stating that "there is no estimate for restoration." They advised residents to keep dialing 911, as it enables them to see the number and return the call.
