Tesla CEO Elon Musk outlined Tesla's production goals for its Optimus humanoid robot. Speaking during the company's earnings call, Musk said Tesla plans to start with 1,000 units per month before scaling up to 10,000 and eventually 100,000 units. He estimated that version two of the robot could be delivered to companies outside Tesla in the second half of next year.
He predicted that Optimus production will exceed 1 million units per year in the future. At that point, he is confident the production cost will fall below $20,000. He compared its complexity to Tesla's Model Y, which has an annual production of over a million units, saying Optimus should be about half the cost. However, he noted that the final price of the robot will be set by demand in the market.
