North Korea demanded the release of its defectors it claims were kidnapped by South Korea, KCNA reported on Saturday. The government in Pyongyang recently canceled a high-level meeting with Seoul and threatened to call off the highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong-un and United States President Donald Trump over US-South Korean military drills. American media reported Washington decided to cancel the B-52 bomber exercises.

According to an unnamed official from the North Korean Red Cross cited by the state-run media, the 12 North Korean female restaurant workers were "abducted" by South Korean officials in a "conspiratorial farce cooked up by the Park Geun Hye group of traitors in 2016."

Meanwhile, it was reported one military official and one civilian from North Korea have managed to defect to the South by using a small boat to reach the waters around South's South Baengnyeong Island.
