North Korea fired at least 10 missiles off its coasts on Wednesday, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced.
According to the announcement, the missiles fell in the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea, with one landing very close to South Korea's territorial waters. In a further escalation of the matter, the rocket in question landed outside of the disputed maritime border for the first time since it was established, Kang Shin-chul, director of operations for the JCS said.
The initial launch was reported by the South Korean military, which claimed that a rocket was hurling toward the island of Ulleungdo before falling some 167 km from the land.
