Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday that NATO's strategic concept, the alliance's key political document, should include "the determination to fight all forms of terrorism." Turkey previously blocked Sweden and Finland from joining the alliance, accusing them of supporting alleged Kurdish terrorists.
"Our expectation is not an impossible one. If they want to become a member of NATO, they have to cut their ties with terrorist organizations... They also need to remove the defense industry restrictions against us. These are not things to do with friendly countries," Cavusoglu stated, referring to a weapons export ban the EU imposed on Turkey in 2019 after its attack on Kurdish groups in Syria.
