NVIDIA Corporation announced on Wednesday that it was ordered to stop selling two of its semiconducors to China by United States officials. The order affects the sale of the A100 and H100 chips, which are manufactured in Taiwan, and therefore, the move is perceived as a continuation of tensions between Washington and Beijing, after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island.
Without the NVIDIA chips, China will not be able to effectively perform image and facial recognition, among other computer tasks. The country still has the option to purchase other semiconductors made by NVIDIA, but if opts not to, the company will lose $400 million.
