New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency on Friday due to a large number of Latin American migrants arriving by buses to the city.
"Although our compassion is limitless, our resources are not," Adams stated. "Thousands of asylum seekers have been bused into New York City and simply dropped off without notice, coordination or care," he added and slammed Texas Governor Greg Abbott for failing to alert New York City officials about the arrival of migrants.
The mayor stressed that more than 17,000 migrants have come to New York since April and noted the city expects to spend about $1 billion to manage the crisis and provide shelter for the asylum seekers.
