French National Rally leader Jordan Bardella revealed on Monday that his party may back a no-confidence motion aimed at censuring Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government over the ongoing budget dispute.
Speaking on French radio RTL, Bardella criticized the proposed social security budget as a "punishment" that would "weaken the purchasing power of our compatriots, warning that if Barnier does not amend the budget plan, the National Rally would move forward with the no-confidence vote, "barring a last-minute miracle."
The prime minister's plan includes s €40 billion in spending cuts and €20 billion in tax hikes designed to address the country's budget deficit. Barnier previously agreed to scrap the proposed tax increase on electricity in next year's budget, yielding to a key demand from the National Rally.
