Niger junta closes country's airspace

Niger's military junta announced the closure of the country's airspace until further notice, citing the growing threat of intervention from neighboring countries.

This move comes as pressure mounts on the junta to restore power to the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had set a deadline for the junta to relinquish control of the country, which has now passed, and ECOWAS had threatened armed intervention if the junta failed to comply.
