The Norwegian government said on Tuesday that it will review investments in Israeli businesses made by its sovereign wealth fund. The announcement follows a report by the Aftenposten newspaper claiming that the fund still invests in Bet Shemesh Engines, an Israeli company maintaining aircraft allegedly used against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Norway has been a vocal critic of Israel's military operations in Gaza and it recognized the Palestinian state in 2024. "The war in Gaza is contrary to international law and is causing terrible suffering, so it is understandable that questions are being raised about the fund’s investments in Bet Shemesh Engines," Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg (pictured) said, adding that the government will contact the Norwegian central bank for answers.
