United States President Barack Obama said during a joint press conference with Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday that Donald Trump may have been elected president because the people felt the need to "just shake things up."
Obama stated that despite noticing the presence of “anger or frustration” in the country and the people’s positive response to “very unconventional candidates” such as Trump and Bernie Sanders, he still claimed that people believe he “did a pretty good job.” He stressed the need to “deal with issues like inequality” and “economic dislocation” effectively in order to avoid “counterproductive approaches.”
Comparing Trump’s election to Brexit, the outgoing U.S. president said that both were the result of people’s anger, concerns and a wish for something to change. However, he pointed out it is yet to be seen whether these same people will be satisfied with the way their chosen options pan out.
