United States Senator Mike Lee (pictured) in an interview with Fox News on Sunday said Senate Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are backing the recent debt bill passed by the House.
Lee stated that the GOP has 43 Republicans who have signed a letter, which is enough to prevent Democrats from passing legislation on the debt ceiling. The senator added that the situation puts McCarthy in a strong negotiating position for his meeting with President Joe Biden on Tuesday, and that the White House will need to engage in serious talks with House Republicans.
"Whenever you’ve got 41 senators who are unwilling to bring debate to a close on any legislation, it cannot pass," said Lee.
