European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated on Monday that un-blocking Ukraine grain is a matter of "life or death."

Borrell told reporters that he has hope that Turkish diplomatic efforts in deblocking the grain exports will bring an agreement this week. At the same time, he referred to the situation of the sanctions against Russia and the impact on the bloc, stressing that the measures against Moscow were not a mistake. "It is what we had to do, and we will continue doing," added Borrell.

The remarks of the EU's top diplomat come after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban commented on Friday, "the European economy has shot itself in the lungs, and therefore it is suffocating everywhere now."
