Crude oil prices climbed further, with WTI adding over 1.9%, after the United States and the United Kingdom launched airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen.
US President Joe Biden said that the joint action was supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, adding the attacks were carried out in response to "unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea." Meanwhile, Houthi rebels claimed they hit several US and UK ships in response to these strikes.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February contracts gained 1.94% to sell for $73.42 a barrel at 10:58 pm ET. At the same time, Brent for March deliveries added 1.81%, going for $78.81 per barrel.
