One person was killed and five others were wounded during protests in the Syrian city of Homs after the General Security Forces opened fire to disperse demonstrations, the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights revealed on Wednesday.
The country's Information Minister Mohammed Yaqoub al-Omar said that protests were triggered by a video circulating on social media showing the burning of an Alawite shrine, during the capture of Aleppo by rebel forces in late November. "Some armed supporters of the former regime on the Syrian coast and in Homs tried to exploit the rumors and attacked security forces," he stressed.
The Syrian Department of Military Operations imposed a curfew in Homs due to unrest, which will be in force from 6:00 pm on Wednesday to 8:00 am on Thursday.
