OpenAI is in early talks for a new round of funding that aims to boost the company's worth by an additional $40 billion, bringing its total valuation to $340 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

The report indicates that SoftBank is anticipated to spearhead this investment effort, potentially pouring in between $15 billion and $25 billion. Previously, in October, OpenAI was valued at $157 billion following a fundraising effort that garnered $6.6 billion.

A portion of the new funds will be allocated to support OpenAI's financial commitment of approximately $18 billion to Stargate, a joint venture with SoftBank and other partners aimed at financing the development of new data centers within the United States, facilities that power OpenAI's technology across the country, the media added.
