The leader of South Korea's Democratic Party (DP) Lee Jae-myung (pictured) said President Yoon Suk-yeol's presidential duties should be immediately suspended for abuse of power, while also accusing him of being the "mastermind behind a rebellion."
"A president who has threatened the lives of the people with unconstitutional and illegal acts cannot be entrusted with state affairs for even a moment," Lee said. He further stressed that presidential immunity does not protect from "crimes of rebellion," calling for Yoon to be subjected to "necessary legal procedures" including indictment and arrest.
Concurrently, the leader of South Korea's ruling People Power Party (PPP) of which Yoon is a member, also called for the "swift" suspension of the president's powers, citing the risk of him taking "radical" action to protect his position.
