Executive Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergencies Programme Dr. Michael Ryan stated on Wednesday that the Chinese government's response and commitment to fighting the coronavirus are "impressive."

He also pointed out that Beijing took "extraordinary measures to face an extraordinary challenge." Dr. Ryan noted that there are 71 reported cases in 15 countries outside of China, adding that 20% of all reported cases globally were "severe" and that 2% of the confirmed cases have died. The source of the virus is still unclear, Dr. Ryan said.

In addition, the WHO senior official claimed that the WHO gathered "leading experts" to help fight the coronavirus.
