Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said on Thursday that previous comments by United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin regarding the number of women and children killed in the Gaza Strip were not based on the US intelligence's information.
"During the hearing today, Secretary Austin was asked how many women and children have died in Gaza. To clarify, the Secretary's answer was citing an estimate from the Hamas-controlled health ministry that more than 25,000 total Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. We cannot independently verify these Gaza casualty figures," the spokesperson told The Jerusalem Post.
Earlier in the day, the Hamas-run Health Ministry reported that the total number of Palestinians killed since October rose to 30,035.
