A US Navy sailor has been detained in Venezuela after visiting the country without authorization for personal reasons, according to the Pentagon. While the US State Department said it is closely monitoring the situation, additional details on his identity have not been revealed.

This incident follows the detention of Staff Sergeant Gordon Black, who was arrested earlier this year in Russia after traveling to see his girlfriend. He was sentenced to nearly four years in prison on theft charges and later sentenced to almost 4 years in prison. Additionally, Army Private Travis King, who fled to North Korea, is scheduled to plead guilty to desertion and other charges later this month.

The US has previously engaged in negotiations with Venezuela, resulting in prisoner exchanges, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the nations.
