The Peruvian congress voted on Wednesday to impeach President Pedro Castillo despite Castillo announcing the dissolution of congress earlier in the day.

Lawmakers supported the impeachment of the president with a 101 to 6 vote. According to reports, Castillo has been arrested following the attempted coup.

Earlier, the country's constitutional court and Castillo's Vice President Dina Boluarte slammed his attempt to dissolve congress and establish an emergency government. Protests also emerged on the streets of Lima after Castillo's announcement.
