The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said the US forces in the Red Sea destroyed one uncrewed aerial system (UAS) launched by Yemen's Houthi rebels.

"It was determined the UAS presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels in the region. These actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S., coalition, and merchant vessels," CENTCOM said in a statement.

Previously, the Iran-backed rebel group claimed it launched attacks on three commercial vessels and two US warships in the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.
