Russian President Vladimir Putin talked over the phone with French President Emmanuel Macron about the current state of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine.
The two leaders discussed the potential consequences of the battles happening in the vicinity of the power plant, with Putin drawing attention to "regular Ukrainian attacks on nuclear facilities, including a radioactive waste storage facility, which is fraught with catastrophic consequences," according to the Kremlin.
Earlier on Sunday, Energoatom, the Ukrainian state-run nuclear power plant operator, said that the power plant ceased its operations for safety reasons.
