Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that his country and Finland earlier had good bilateral relations, but warned that there will be "problems" after Helsinki became a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"We will now create the Leningrad Military District there [on the Russian-Finnish border] and concentrate certain military units there," Putin noted in an interview with a Russian TV channel.
Finland officially joined NATO in April, when Moscow warned that Helsinki's accession could lead to an "escalation of the conflict" between Russia and the West. However, Putin today stressed that Russia has no interest or reason to fight with NATO.
