Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized on Tuesday that Russia must counter Western "information attacks" while ensuring the protection of human rights domestically.

The president made the remarks during a video meeting with the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, coinciding with International Human Rights Day.

"No matter how much we anathematize what is happening with human rights somewhere abroad… we must respond to it," Putin stated, adding that Russia's priority remains upholding human rights within its borders.
