Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that he hopes the country’s relations with United States will improve after Donald Trump enters the White House on January 20, TASS reported citing the Kremlin.
In a message sent to Trump to congratulate the president-elect Christmas and New Year, Putin stated that he is hopeful the two countries “will be able to take real steps for restoring the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation” which would subsequently change the atmosphere on the international political scene.
"Serious global and regional challenges our countries have to face in recent years vividly confirm that the Russian-US relations remain an important factor of ensuring stability and security in the contemporary world,” Putin pointed out.
Earlier today, the president expressed regret that the U.S. imposed new sanctions on Russia, claiming the outgoing Obama administration intended to “further undermine the U.S.-Russian relations” with the decision.
