Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that his country is able to meet China's current and future energy needs.

The energy cooperation between Russia and China is growing, Putin stated ahead of another meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow. The use of national currencies in bilateral settlements should be encouraged further and trade between the two countries surged by over 30% to record highs, according to the Russian leader.

The technological sovereignty of the two sides is an important subject matter and they can become global leaders in information technology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, Putin noted. Moscow will support Chinese companies that plan to replace firms from the West that have left Russia, he underscored.
