The Qatar government has reached a deal with the Taliban to resume the chartered evacuation flights out of the Kabul airport, thereby ending the falling-out with Afghanistan that caused a month-long stop in international flights, Qatar foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani told Axios in an interview on Tuesday.
The two flights per week agreement established by Qatar Airways will allow countries to evacuate their citizens and endangered Afghans who face threats of a humanitarian crisis. The deal was made days after Qatar, Turkey and the Taliban announced they are in general accord concerning the management of Hamid Karzai International Airport.
"We believe that we need to have a collective effort among the members of the international community and concerned parties in order to put in place a blueprint for the way forward in Afghanistan," Al-Thani also stated.
