Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family are near closing a $33-per-share deal for Manchester United Football Club, Sky News reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Under the deal, Jim Ratcliffe would acquire a 25% stake in the club, as per an unnamed person, because the deal had yet to be completed.

If confirmed, it would represent a premium of 78% over Thursday's closing price of $18.43 on the New York Stock Exchange. Manchester shares gained 8.08% at 7:42 am ET during premarket trading following the report.
