A suspected member of the team that killed Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi was arrested earlier in the day at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, RTL France reported on Tuesday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the suspect, Khalid Aedh Al-Otaibi, was trying to board a plane to Riyadh when he was detained. The police reacted to a search warrant issued by Turkey, where Khashoggi was murdered. Khalid Aedh Al-Otaibi, who has been sanctioned by the United States and the United Kingdom, used to be an official in Saudi Arabia's government and a member of the Saudi Royal Guard Regiment.
Jamal Khashoggi was killed in October 2018 in Istanbul. He was a columnist for The Washington Post, among other outlets, and was known for his criticism of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Many Western countries accused the crown prince of being involved in the case.
