German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke over the phone earlier in the day and expressed their support for the ratification of the European Union–China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, the China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Friday.
Xi also allegedly urged Merkel to promote a more "correct" policy towards China in the EU. He also expressed his hope China and Germany will work together to achieve peace in Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, Xi had a phone call with his US counterpart Joe Biden during which they talked about "the responsibility of both nations to ensure competition does not veer into conflict."
