Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Tuesday that restrictions put in place amid the rise of the Omicron variant will be lifted on January 24. The changes primarily concern the hospitality industry, as nightclubs will be allowed to reopen, and indoor public events will no longer have limited attendance.

Sturgeon stated Scotland has seen a "significant fall" in infections and claimed the nation "turned the corner on the Omicron wave." She still called on people to respect basic measures, such as wearing masks in public indoor settings and on public transport.
