Former United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced on Friday his intention to run in the contest to replace Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In a video message on Twitter, Sunak stated that he is "standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party." "Let's restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country," he added.

His decision follows the political crisis that hit the British government, triggering a wave of resignations and the stepping down of Johnson. Earlier reports indicate that Tories favor Ben Wallace to replace him.
